Today’s all about Cherry Bombe’s Jubilee and my NYC visit! I was lucky enough to jet away for the weekend with my foodie partner in crime, Kristen. Cherry Bombe is a printed quarterly magazine that celebrates women in food.
Their annual event, Jubliee, brought together some of the most influential women in the food industry for inspiring talks, delicious food, and networking opportunities. The conference included a keynote address by
the renowned food writer and former editor-in-chief of Gourmet magazine. She spoke about the importance of storytelling in food, and how sharing our experiences and memories of food can help us connect with one another on a deeper level. Throughout the day, we heard from a diverse range of speakers, including chefs, fashonistas, cookbook authors, and food entrepreneurs. Each speaker shared their unique perspective and experiences, from discussing the connection between food and fashion to building successful businesses in the food industry. One of the conference's highlights was the "Food Icons" panel, which featured Dr. Jessica B. Harris, Madhur Jaffery, & Grace Young, moderated by Cherry Bombe founder Kerry Diamond. These food icons have LIVED A LIFE worth celebrating, from writing food novels to bringing Indian food to mainstream culture and revitalizing our country’s Chinatowns. The 700 attendees were inspired and met with many moments of laughter and levity. Here are some of my favorite quotes from the panel interviews:
-It’s ok to reject rejection respectfully
-I would wish for people who come from disparate backgrounds to care for each other
-Fail quickly
-Plan for your own obsolescence
-Step on on the water. Who knows, you might find out you can walk on it.
-We are all a one-woman band.
-Go forth, be brave.
The conference also featured a marketplace where attendees could sample and purchase products from various vendors like Kerrygold🧀, Oishii🍓, Wegman’s, Focaccia Flourist, Maazah, Stumptown☕️, Veuve Clicquot🥂, Maman, and more. It was beautiful and delicious. Plus we got a makeover from Jone Roads and now I want allll of their products.
This weekend, I left feeling inspired and energized, with a renewed sense of passion for the food industry and the incredible women who are shaping its future. It also didn’t hurt to spot a few influencers in the space like Claire Saffitz, Rebekah Peppler, Hailee Catalano and a former Top Chef contestant.
This weekend was also a good reminder to invest in yourself. Find what fills your cup and go fill it.
